Stay away from Belkin

I have a Belkin 54G router and it was working fine until a couple months ago. It started sporadically losing its settings and reverting to factory default settings, i.e., no internet connection. When I would try to restore my saved settings it goes through the restore process as if successful. But, upon reboot it still has the factory default settings which forces me to manually type the PPPoE and security settings in all over again. I have reloaded the firmware, powered it down, rebooted it, and manually reset it to factory defaults all with no improvement in this issue. This has happened about 10 times over the past couple of months. I emailed their tech support twice describing the issue and received a form letter response that took about 4 days and didn’t address this issue at all. When I replied and advised them that the form letter was unresponsive to the issue I got a slightly modified form letter back another 4 days later which again wasn’t helpful… extremely poor tech…

Busy? Read this book and get insync with biblical rhythms to the glory of God

Busyness – It’s a word which I’ve become very well-acquainted. Growing up I played multiple sports and was always on the go with those sports and as well as church. Between those two activities and school, my childhood and teenage years flew by. My twenties flew by with being involved with various ministries both in the Church and with Servants of Grace in addition to Bible College and seminary. It seems life is always busy and there is so little margin. Life comes us at a million miles an hour with a thousand opportunities to do anything and everything but “be still and know I am God” (Psalm 46:10). This is why we should be thankful for Crazy Busy: A (Mercifully) Short Book About A (Really) Big Problem by Pastor Kevin DeYoung.

At the outset of this review, I wish to make clear what this book is not so you can be clear about what the book is about. First, Crazy Busy is not the definitive book on busyness. Second, the book is not the mature reflections of one who has thought…

The Explosive Child: A New Approach for Understanding and Parenting Easily Frustrated, Chronically Inflexible Children

Brand:	Harper
Rating:	4.6
Description:	What′s an explosive child? A child who responds to routine problems with extreme frustration-crying, screaming, swearing, kicking, hitting, biting, spitting, destroying property, and worse. A child whose frequent, severe outbursts leave his or her parents feeling frustrated, scared, worried, and desperate for help. Most of these parents have tried everything-reasoning, explaining, punishing, sticker charts, therapy, medication-but to no avail. They can′t figure out why their child acts the way he or she does; they wonder why the strategies that work for other kids don′t work for theirs; and they don′t know what to do instead. Dr. Ross Greene, a distinguished clinician and pioneer in the treatment of kids with social, emotional, and behavioral challenges, has worked with thousands of explosive children, and he has good news: these kids aren′t attention-seeking, manipulative, or unmotivated, and their parents aren′t passive, permissive pushovers. Rather, explosive kids are lacking some crucial skills in the domains of flexibility/adaptability, frustration tolerance, and problem solving, and they require a different approach to parenting. Throughout this compassionate, insightful, and practical book, Dr. Greene provides a new conceptual framework for understanding their difficulties, based on research in the neurosciences. He explains why traditional parenting and treatment often don′t work with these children, and he describes what to do instead. Instead of relying on rewarding and punishing, Dr. Greene′s Collaborative Problem Solving model promotes working with explosive children to solve the problems that precipitate explosive episodes, and teaching these kids the skills they lack.

Testimonies on The Explosive Child: A New Approach for Understanding and Parenting Easily Frustrated, Chronically Inflexible Children ® Harper

This book changed my life

This book changed my life. My child does not respond to "traditional" disciplinary approaches. I’d tried everything short of spanking time outs, consequences, loss of priveledges, positive reinforcement for good behavior and NOTHING worked. After reading at least 20 parenting books and struggling to find a way to cope with my child, I discovered "The Explosive Child." What a godsend. This book provides a new way of looking at and helping "difficult" children who respond with anger and aggression when they are frustrated, and explains why traditional methods of discipline don’t work with these kids. It then goes on to suggest a new method to teach kids (and their parents!) the skills they need to avoid meltdowns. While perhaps geared more toward the older child and adolescents, I think it would still be helpful to parents of preschoolers. Even if your child doesn’t have major behavioral problems, it teaches great basic communication…

Consumer Reviews on Netgear WGB511 802.11g Wireless Networking Kit at Netgear

Works well with other wireless cards, some trouble XP

I bought this WGB511 Networking Kit just this week (compliments to Amazon.com for fast shipment, BTW) after much consideration of different companies (Linksys, Belkin, etc.) and models (like the 802.11b wireless networking kit from Netgear). In the end, I decided buy this product because it seemed to give greatest bang for the buck (and reviews were up and down for all the products–for some people it worked great, for others, not at all). So far, it works great. My roommate has a Belkin 802.11g wireless card, and the router works just great with his computer–no spotty connections, and Internet connection as fast as connecting to the modem directly. As for me (with the included Netgear WG511 wireless card), the connection was somewhat spotty at the beginning. I think the problem was XP’s (I’m not a great fan of M$) automatic wireless network configuration. It must have done something that increases (apparent) signal strength but makes the connection unstable. But, after configuring…

Cheap and works!

Oh man this seller is awesome! almost 1/2 the price of what you get directly from Apple and it activates flawlessly! At first I was very wary of this company (the seller) because I never heard of them before (website looks cheesy too); my package (Applecare box) came open but with the activation code inside, so that added to my suspicion. I thought I was going to get cheated but when the time came for me to activate, it worked with no trouble at all. This company is legit! I saved so much money. My iPod is now protected for another year. If you’re like me always only trusting Amazon and not any other third-party sellers, don’t be afraid with this firm. Buy from them, protect your iPod for cheap. Can’t recommend enough. Oh, yea they ship fast too.

P.S. I only went with this seller because at the time Amazon ran out of stock, this was the only option left and I needed it immediately (warranty almost out). Thanks to that incident, I saved money. :D I didn’t mention the…

God wants us to be focused on what God wants us to do, not everything else.

Crazy Busy is a book that I enjoyed and got a lot more out of than I thought I would going in. I am a fairly low key guy. I don’t enjoy high stress situations. I usually start feeling stress when my to-do list has more than a handful of things on it. I do not view myself as `crazy busy’ and I am not by the standards of most people.

But this `mercifully short’ book on busyness was still helpful. I think it fits well with my unintentional book focus this year, that it is the normal, mundane every-day things that are really important in the long run.

DeYoung is the pastor of a large church, author or co-author of more than a dozen books, father of 5 under 10, husband, and well understands busyness. As he says, this is one of those books by someone that sees a problem through personal experience, not because he has solved the problem of busyness.

So he uses 3 things to avoid, 7 diagnosis of the problem and one thing you must do, to try and overcome…

Works well unless you need one specific feature

Appears to be feature-rich at first glance, but if you are like me, and need to SPOOF YOUR MAC ADDRESS with your ISP because they have your computer’s MAC address in their database DO NOT BUY THIS ROUTER. The MAC Spoofing feature does not work, and it causes the unit to be unable to obtain an IP Address from your ISP, and thus you cannot get online.

UNIDEN technical support is open 24/7, but the person who took my call could care less to be working there. I was not walked through any kind of extensive testing or troubleshooting procedure. The only thing suggested was to press the reset button. After that failed, it was suggested I RMA the unit.

I will be taking the tech’s advice, however, I will not be getting a new unit. I will be getting my money back
